Counseling for Anxiety

Anxiety is such a consuming and stressful experience. It can feel like fear is absolutely running your life without a break at any point.

It can feel like you’re stuck on a merry-go-round of negative thoughts, and no matter how hard you try to calm it down it just gets worse. And it doesn’t even matter if the thoughts are rational or not, they’re just these big scary monsters that feel impossible to defeat.

There are so many factors that can contribute to anxiety – biological, neurochemical, environmental (where you live and who you spend the most time around), thinking processes, past experiences and trauma. I am used to looking at the whole picture and helping my clients to figure out their specific obstacles and how to get them to the life they’re wanting to live.

Some symptoms of anxiety that I see often include:

  • Uncontrollable anxiety and worry

  • Struggling to concentrate and recall info

  • Exhaustion - mental and physical

  • Crankiness and heightened anger

  • Sleep struggles (falling asleep, staying asleep, or poor quality sleep)

  • Physical reactions – pounding heart, sweating, shortness of breath, tingling, chest pain, dizziness, restlessness, muscle tension

  • Panic attacks

  • Disconnection from reality or your body

  • Fear that you’re going crazy or dying

  • Feeling like you can only manage stressful situations with alcohol/drugs

  • Avoidance of anxiety-provoking situations altogether
